Drift Protocol Hacker Moves $61M ETH to Tornado Cash Mixer

A wallet connected to the Drift Protocol breach moved roughly $61 million worth of Ether into Tornado Cash on Tuesday, blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain reported in an X post.

The address transferred 25,700 ETH to the mixer during a two-hour window, breaking two months of silence. Arkham data shows the attacker still controls around 81,454 Ether — approximately $194 million at current prices. Mixers combine deposits from many sources, breaking the chain of custody and complicating efforts to follow stolen funds.

Drift Protocol, a decentralised exchange built on Solana, disclosed losses of about $295 million following the April 1 compromise. In June the platform published findings from Mandiant, a cybersecurity consultancy, identifying UNC6862 — a North Korean-linked actor — as responsible for the incident.

On Oct. 1 Drift activated claims for DFX recovery tokens, which grant holders a share of a restitution pool. That pool launched with roughly $3.1 million and grows through trading fees and any assets law enforcement or tracing work retrieves.

DefiLlama ranks the Drift breach third among 2026 crypto hacks by size. The $387 million Bitget compromise and the $320 million Liquid Network attack sit higher on the year's list.
